First week

January 23, 2018

So finally after so many months of waiting, preparing, researching, editing our video for the Kickstarter Campaign was finally published 15th January. I didn't expect it to create such a buzz without any advertising, just the power of Facebook doing its job. Honestly, I was preparing the Facebook page and published it without thinking anyone would see it. Wow, I was wrong. Perhaps too early as the Kickstarter does not start until the 6th March, however through reading comments from this first week I was able to tweek and think further about the documentary in a different way. While I have my own opinion about the yoga industry, I am the film-maker. I am the director, therefore the story telling needs to come from a place that is not bias, not hateful, but informative. Informative by simply putting out the facts of what has happened to yoga in the past decade. Nobody can deny what has happened to yoga, its out there everywhere we look these day. I also felt that I needed to make it extra clear that 'it is not all bad!'. Yoga's evolution has opened so many possibilities for yoga to reach more people. People are moving more, and any type of movement is better than none. However what people still need to understand is that is has opened the gate for all types of opportunist and corruption. We need to be aware!!!! We need to talk about this. We are talking about something that is much more than a exercise, it is a cultural appropriation that needs to be respected and bought to peoples attention. Also, as a yoga teacher, do you not want your title to be highly regarded and respected? Not just another yoga teacher?

Questions raised this first week about the documentaries tone:

Is it possible to live with yoga and not be succumbed to the industries pull towards digital teachings, competitive marketing and manipulation of the practice?

What about experience?

Countability of Yoga Alliance

Cultural appropiation

More thinking, further discussion and excited to put this campaign out for all the hard working individuals who relate to our topic. I will do my dam best to create this for you.

We want to hear from you!
